Improv: Yes, And!

This improv class for grades 4-6 explores different types of short form improv games. Designed especially for young improvisers with rich, vivid  imaginations, shy improviser who would like to expand their imaginations– and everyone in between. Social and emotional skills are developed an improved in a safe, supportive and playful environment. Improviser will learn to think on their feet, explore word play and language, and make up simple characters to grand acting scenarios on the spot.

For students with a keen wit and love of improv, this class works diligently on the foundational skills needed to advance into the older improv classes and enjoy improvisation at its fullest.

Principles of Yes, And! improv explored include:

  1. Agreement
  2. Active Listening
  3. Paying Attention
  4. Storytelling
  5. Team Work: have a group mind, think of others
  6. Status
  7. Setting up your fellow players to look good in a scene
  8. Avoiding Improv pitfalls: stealing jokes / not listening / changing topic
  9. Active choices
