PlayLab: LOTR The Fellowship of the Ring

PlayLabs are artistic experiments working with original or adapted stories. Together we re-imagine literature. Using our favorite stories as inspiration, we explore story lines, characters, dialogue, and character movements to foster a deeper understanding of each theatrical element and the role it plays in a performance. Students are allowed the freedom of artistic expression and play an active role in the creative process as we embark on the journey of creating a unique piece of art inspired by our favorite stories and their characters. PlayLabs are enhanced by sets, lights, costumes and all the theatre magic we can create.

Pay a little visit to Middle Earth and visit Bilbo Baggins. On his uncle Bilbo’s 111th birthday, Frodo is gifted a special ring – which he is astonished to find is actually the One Ring, crafted by the Dark Lord Sauron as the ultimate weapon of power. Only the truly pure of heart can resist the temptation of the Ring; thus, the wizard Gandalf sets Frodo, his faithful gardener Samwise, and mischievous cousins Merry and Pippin on a quest to destroy the Ring. Our two weeks of immersion into Middle earth results in our unique interpretation of the Fellowship of the Ring and the journey to destroy it in the Mountain of Doom.
