Actors Studio: A League of Their Own

Actors Studio Although the Actors Studio welcomes all interested students, the actors should expect to delve into the creative process fully on the first rehearsal. A top notch program, the Actors Studio encourages co-authoring of the story throughout the process, development of strong theatre skills and the pride of excellence that comes from working hard as an ensemble.  Actors should expect to work on the play outside of class time on line memorization and play research as necessary.

A League of Their Own

This is the story of the All-American Girls’ Professional Baseball League which was founded in 1943, when most of the men of baseball-playing age were fighting World War II. The story begins as a candy-bar tycoon enlists agents to scour the country to find women who could play ball. The girls come to Chicago to try out for the team with other prospects. The team’s owner, Walter Harvey needs someone to coach his team and he picks one-time home-run champion Jimmy Dugan, who is now a broken-down alcoholic. After a few weeks of training, as Dugan sobers up, the team begins to show some promise. By the end of the season, the team has improved to the point where they are competing in the World Series. Although this comedy is fictionalized, it is inspired by real life events — go girl power!
