Friday Afternoon Improv Comedy Club

Special Interest classes focus on a particular style or genre of performing arts. Qualified and expert Guest Instructors work with students on original works for the stage. Playwriting, Music/Voice, Dance/Movement, Poetry, Shakespeare or other period Style, Sketch and Improv are all potential themes. Students and instructor decide on the production value of their unique work of art. Creative expression by the students is not only encouraged, but serves as the basis of each work created.

Technique Theme: Improvisational Comedy

GOT FUNNY? Good! This class encourages all things made up, outlandish and silly. The class will focus on short form theatre games and scene work in the style of “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Be creative…think on the spot…see the world in a completely unique way. Spontaneous play and ensemble work drive this course. The Santa Cruz community is rife with Improv troupes - and this is where they get their start! This class requires a minimum of 6 participants to run - so tell your friends to come out and PLAY!

Improv Troupe

Are you ready to take the next step in Improv? Would you like to be in a troupe that performs regularly while stretching and learning new skills? Then this is the place for you. must have worked with the director previously and and have demonstrated the skills necessary to move on beyond Improv 101; deep listening, character development and specificity of time and place. This select group of players will move beyond theatre games into long form improv and performance ready shows. You will study many different improv techniques and maybe even take a field trip or two to see professional (age appropriate) improv shows. This will be an on-going class with showcases at the end of every 8 weeks.
