PlayLabs are artistic experiments working with original or adapted stories. Together we re-imagine literature. Students explore story lines, characters, dialogue, and character movements to foster a deeper understanding of each theatrical element and the role it plays in a performance. Students are allowed the freedom of artistic expression and play an active role in the creative process. PlayLabs are enhanced by sets, lights, costumes and all the theatre magic we can create.
Scheherazade, the Vizier’s daughter, agrees to marry the Persian King, but each day is a matter of life or death…hers. Carefully, she spins tales of adventure, magic and myth, entertaining the King and sparing her life for one more day. This class studies the story of Scheherazade as a framework and includes selected short plays from the now famous tales that won the heart of the King of Persia, saved Scheherazad’s life and ended a reign of tyranny. The Belly Dance students will have the opportunity to perform in our class production of Arabian Nights.
