UPDATE: March 11th, 2020

Dear West Families and Students,

Re: Suspension of all West Academy classes effective immediately

On the recommendation of our local Santa Cruz Health Department and with our careful monitoring the impact of COVID-19 (coronavirus) in our community, West is suspending all Academy classes and performances effective immediately until April 10th, 2020.

We are in daily contact with our local, state, and federal health officials to monitor the developing situation, and this decision comes as a very strong precautionary measure on the part of West Creative Performing Arts. We hope this proactive approach will help to stop the spread of coronavirus within our community. Next week all West families with students in Academy classes will be sent a new schedule with continuing class dates to begin in April 2020 after Spring Break.

Our top priority is always the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, staff and patrons. Due to the community spread of coronavirus within Santa Cruz County, along with the multiple absences of our students due to illness, and the many school sites over several counties that our Teaching Artists serve, we feel this is the most proactive decision West can make at this time.

Since the very nature of the performing arts is about gathering to experience storytelling together as a community, it is with a heavy heart that we make this decision. The staff of West has not made this decision lightly, and we feel that we have a moral obligation to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Please stay tuned for updated schedules in the coming week. Thank you so much for your understanding, cooperation and flexibility during this time.

In community,

Terri Steinmann, Artistic Director
and the West Creative Team
