WEST Summer Teen Conservatory with Shakespeare Santa Cruz

Our Teen Conservatory is a collaboration with Shakespeare Santa Cruz. In its fifth year, WEST students work with SSC Core Artists and Guest Instructors in the study of theatre to a professional standard. Options includes backstage tours, artist seminars and performances of the SSC season in addition to class. Students have an option to select a One week or a Two week course of study. Although the program varies each year due to artist schedules, typical classes are:
- Shakespearean script analysis
- Classical acting
- Directing
- Movement for the stage
- Vocal technique
- Stage combat
- Two-week students participate in a public showcase
In addition to coursework,students students have an opportunity to
- Attend each of the three (3) Shakespeare Santa Cruz productions
- Participate in pre-show discourse with the dramaturges and post-show discussion with the company members and actors
- Take an in-depth tours of the facility and costume shop
- Attend a lecture/workshop with Artistic Director, Marco Baricelli
The Teen Conservatory is open to ALL STUDENTS ages 14-21 years old with a desire to learn about the craft of theatre. Although most of the students are local, attendees have come from as far away as Canada and Scotland. Although no formal housing is offered, out of town students may contact us and we will do our very best to assist in housing. The nature of a conservatory is intensive–students are engaged in activity every moment of their scheduled time.

One Week
- Ages: 14 - 21

- Cost: $650 payable in 4 payments @ $162.50/month; Payments are due on or before March 19, April 16, May 14 and June 11; and will be charged automatically each month
Two Weeks
- Ages: 14 - 21
- Time: 10am - 5pm
- Class Dates: August 6 - 18; Monday-Saturday
- Showcase Date: Saturday, August 18 at 7pm
- Location: West End Studio Theatre

- Actual Cost of Conservatory: $1,150, WEST Education Fund Sponsorship of $175 per student reduces the cost to $975 payable in 4 payments @ $243.75/month; Payments are due on or before March 19, April 16, May 14 and June 11; and will be charged automatically each month
