PlayLab: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

PlayLabs are artistic experiments working with original or adapted stories. Together we re-imagine literature. Using our favorite stories as inspiration, we explore story lines, characters, dialogue, and character movements to foster a deeper understanding of each theatrical element and the role it plays in a performance. Students are allowed the freedom of artistic expression and play an active role in the creative process as we embark on the journey of creating a unique piece of art inspired by our favorite stories and their characters. PlayLabs are enhanced by sets, lights, costumes and all the theatre magic we can create.

Winter Theme: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Exploration is afoot in Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Captain Nemo tells the three men when they board his submarine, ”…you will not regret the time spent on board my vessel. You are going to travel through a wonderland. Astonishment and stupefaction will probably be your normal state of mind.”

This play invites the audience to run through the hallways, backways, stairways and sneakyways on a unique, immersive adventure. 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a thrilling, top-secret mission to infiltrate an enemy submarine and capture a deadly foe. It’s a performance your audience will never forget because you’re all knee-deep in the action! The final twist is an ending you’d never expect and a difficult choice that only the audience can make.
