Delilah Steinmann - About Delilah Steinmann Delilah has been involved with theater since the age of three. Since then she has dabbled with all aspects of theater from acting on the stage to working behind the scenes. She was member of Dummyhead Improv for four years and the WEST Ensemble Players program for four years as well. She has been an associate instructor at WEST for the past four years and has worked on numerous projects over the years. Delilah has worked with the non-profit Eye to Eye, an arts based social and emotional skills building after-school program for students who has learning disabilities and attention issues, for the past three years. As a queer theatre maker, Angela has been creating original theatre for sixteen years that tells stories that celebrate our differences while seeking a true sense of belonging in the world. As a devised theatre maker, Angela has been awarded residencies for her plays, Unauthorized at Mama Calizo’s Voice Factory, San Francisco, and Eulogy at The Little Angel Puppet Theatre, London, UK. In 2018 she was commissioned to create the first piece of children’s theatre for the San Francisco National Queer Arts Festival, Javi’s Home. She was also awarded the Arts Council Santa Cruz Create Grant to tour Javi’s Home, a show about a young boy adopted by two moms to Santa Cruz, California. Angela is most proud of her work starting the UK based social enterprise, VoiceOUT, a physical theatre company that offered personal and artistic development opportunities to LGBTQ+ young people through theatre based resilience building workshops. Her current work as a Teaching Artist allowed her to teach a range of performing arts subjects from puppetry, movement, and design at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama to playwriting, acting and devised theatre to K-12th grade students in elementary schools across the Bay Area, Santa Cruz, and Monterey Counties. In 2007, she founded WEST Performing Arts Academy, the only literature-based theatre education organization specifically for youth on the Peninsula. She continues at WEST ‘s Executive/Artistic Director and splits her time between sharing her passion for language and drama with classroom students with her administrative and program development responsibilities. Under her guidance, WEST has grown to serve over 5,000 students annually in studio classes and residencies and thousands more in audience capacity. She is a Master Teaching Artist and adept at creating theatre curricula for K-12. She is particularly inspired to work with, students with learning differences and in non-traditional learning environments.
