An Introduction to Technical Theatre

At WEST Performing Arts, we offer an exciting theater class that delves into the captivating world of technical theatre. This course is designed for those with a passion for bringing stories to life behind the scenes. Join us and discover the magic of lighting, sound, costumes, stage makeup, and the dedicated crew who work tirelessly to turn a story into a mesmerizing SHOW. This is a seminar style intro. course with up to 45 hours of hand on experience putting new skills to use.

Overview of :

  • Lighting Design: Unleash your creativity as you learn to manipulate light to set the mood, highlight actors, and create captivating visuals that enhance the storytelling on stage.

  • Sound Engineering: Dive into the art of sound design and master the technical aspects of creating soundscapes that transport the audience into different worlds.

  • Costume Creation: Explore the world of costumes and learn how to design and create outfits that not only reflect the characters but also add depth to the narrative.

  • Stage Makeup: Delve into the techniques of stage makeup and transform actors to fit their roles, whether it be enhancing facial features or creating special effects.

  • Crew Coordination: Understand the vital role of the stage crew in ensuring smooth performances, from set changes to managing props and technical cues.

  • Stage Management, House Management: Learn how to set schedules, multi-task responsibilities and ensure the smooth process for actors and audience alike.

  • Bringing it All Together: Experience the thrill of collaboration as you work with fellow students to bring all elements of technical theatre together seamlessly.

Class Information

Dates: June 1, 2, 8 & 9 (Sat. & Sun.) plus up to 45 hours of summer show support which will be scheduled based on availability.

Time: 1pm -5pm

Grades: 8-12 (7th grade admitted if space is available)

Cost: $375
